Summary: 

The position held within the Agricultural Department will lead the Livestock Judging Program as the head coach.  The successful candidate will manage all livestock issues associated with the Livestock Judging Program, and provide assistance as needed throughout the Agricultural Department.

Responsibilities: 

The successful candidate will lead the program in a direction that continually develops quality, competitive students in the Livestock Judging Program. Recruiting team members with a focus on educational programs while coupling livestock judging into their academic journey will be essential to the overall success of each student in the classroom and arena.

Responsibilities performed with the livestock judging team include, but are not limited to coaching students, maintaining equipment, scheduling, and planning practices on and off-campus, care of college-owned livestock, and traveling to competitions with the team. The successful candidate is expected to perform other related duties as assigned, which may include, but are not limited to: participating in Agricultural Department meetings; student advising, providing recommendations for the preparation of departmental objectives, participating in the development of departmental goals, and adhering to all institutional policies. 

The successful candidate will be expected to remain current relative to developments that occur in their area of expertise and livestock judging through current literature, communication with colleagues, and participation in professional conferences. 

Additional assignments may be established where appropriate.

Essential Duties: 

  • Serve as the Head Livestock Judging Team Coach, which includes coaching students, maintaining equipment, care of college-owned livestock, and traveling with the team to competitions, scheduling, and planning livestock practices.
  • Communicate openly and cooperate fully with the Agricultural Department academic chair on all courses and livestock judging related matters.
  • Work closely with the academic chair of the Agricultural Department, and the Dean of the School of Science on team activities.
  • Supervise and collaborate with the department to manage and maintain college-owned livestock, supervise student workers, and maintain equipment, vehicles, and facilities.
  • Recruit students that will participate on the Livestock Judging Team and as Casper College students.
  • Manage all budgets associated with the Livestock Judging Team.
  • Maintain and foster relationships with alumni of the Casper College judging team.

Work Environment:

Work is performed both outdoors and inside in a variety of weather conditions. Work is usually performed during the normal workday; however, some early morning, late evening, and weekend work will be required. Travel with the Livestock Judging Team to competitions will be required. Work may cause exposure to atmospheric conditions such as dirt, dust, adverse weather conditions, and noise levels expected in a normal agricultural environment. 

Physical Demands:

The employee must be able to stand for long periods of time, speak, hear, use hands and fingers to handle materials, and use a computer, feel, and reach with hands and arms. Work requires walking and standing for extended periods of time and frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds. Work includes the use of hands to manipulate both livestock and use tools, equipment, and vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Agricultural Economics/Business, or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in livestock handling and animal welfare
  • Experience with and knowledge of Intercollegiate Livestock Judging processes
  • Successful candidates will be required to verify a good driving record through an MVR, and be insurable under the College's automobile liability policy.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience coaching an intercollegiate Livestock Judging Team 
  • Graduate-level degree in Agriculture or related field from an accredited college or university
