Weiland Farms in Garner, Iowa has an exciting opportunity for a Production Assistant to shape the farm’s future agronomic efforts and to be our representative at agronomic seminars and workshops.

You're an “intrepreneur” who is self-motivated, strategic, and will help ensure high levels of productivity and profitability to improve our operations. As Production Assistant, you are the main source of field information for our internal and external clients.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Work collaboratively with partners and Operations Manager to establish field operations, including scouting and prioritizing planting, harvesting and herbicide applications.
  • Facilitate accurate data collection from our operations.
  • Communicate and coordinate third-party contract services.
  • Coordinate receipt, inventory and management of inputs.
  • Develop an effective agronomy network of contacts for the company.
  • Provide input and oversee improvements for greater operation efficiency.
  • Develop and implement crop plans to analyze annual crop budgets, including developing cash flows and production costs.
  • Assist in sourcing crop inputs from suppliers, including seed, crop protection and fertilizer.
  • Administer the farm’s soil-sampling program.
  • Facilitate and lead communication of agronomic data to stakeholders and landowners.
  • Work with third-party agronomic or production-related service contractors.
  • Research, design and implement various improvements and projects, including opportunities to increase yields and reduce costs.
  • Prepare documents to present proposed ROIs to partners and Operations Manager.
  • Work with clients in crop planning and input procurement.
  • Assist in building the IMS business book.
  • Participate in seasonal field operations, including operating key and support equipment, and handling and storing grain.
  • Maintain the farm and landowner properties’ appearance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A minimum of two years’ related farm operations experience.
  • Experience in agronomic, field scouting, and precision agriculture.
  • Background and education in agronomy.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Commercial Pesticide Applicator license preferred.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • The ability to operate all types of farm equipment.
  • Highly organized and the ability to provide effective verbal and written communications.
  • Results oriented.
