Park Maintenance Specialist

CLASS DESCRIPTION:
Performs intermediate technical level operations service work under general supervision from a technical superior. Work includes the installation, repair, operation, preventive maintenance and care of mechanical and electrical equipment, heavy motor and construction equipment, complex mechanical equipment, and hand and power tools; performing skilled laboring tasks; repair, maintenance and installation of a variety of electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic instruments and systems; maintaining and repairing breathing apparatus and other air/oxygen equipment or machines; and skilled laboratory testing and analysis work. Work also includes maintenance of, park lands, government properties, and related facilities and structures; tree care and applying regulated horticultural and landscaping practices; and maintaining physical inventories including receiving and issuing equipment and supplies, requisitioning supplies and materials, record keeping, and maintenance of a perpetual inventory of all materials.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/MINIMUM REQUIRED

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Reviews plans, blueprints and cost proposals for recreation & park facilities.
  • Makes keys.
  • Operates Class B vehicles.
  • Prepares drawings/plans for various building renovations and construction projects.
  • Prepares requisitions for supplies, materials and equipment.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and repairs of assigned equipment & vehicles.
  • May schedule the work and oversee work of outside contractors.
  • Performs snow removal and inclement weather-related duties.
  • Assists with special events.
  • May direct a crew performing building maintenance or equipment maintenance and repair operations.
  • Operates large equipment: Front end loader, skid loader, fork lift as well as tractors with attachments, trimmers, chainsaws, carpentry saws and equipment.
  • Responsible for identifying and applying good sustainability practices into all aspects of Department operations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no formal supervisory responsibilities

PREFERRED EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the 12th grade plus 2 years of experience in carpentry and construction trades, landscaping, park maintenance, or a related field; or, completion of an associate's degree program in horticulture or park/resource management plus some experience requiring the use of hand tools and motor equipment.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:
Experience in building maintenance, construction, or related field experience; or attendance in technical trades school training, i.e. construction, electrical, mechanical.
