Description

Seasonal position from October to April, with the option to extend based on performance and business needs.

 

Principle Purpose of Job

As a Wrangler at Devil's Thumb Ranch Resort & Spa, you’ll play an essential role in creating memorable guest experiences while ensuring the well-being of our horses. This position combines hands-on horse care with engaging guest interactions to deliver exceptional customer service. You will oversee the care, training, and use of horses at Cabin Creek Stables and ensure guests enjoy a safe and unforgettable experience.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate safe, fun, and engaging stable activities and events for guests of all ages.
  • Consistently deliver exceptional customer service and build positive guest relationships.
  • Perform daily grooming, tacking, and un-tacking of trail and driving animals; harness and un-harness as needed.
  • Handle routine horse care, including feeding, vet care, hoof care, and monitoring herd health.
  • Book reservations for stable activities via the phone or in-person interactions, and check guests out on the POS system.
  • Ensure guests have completed liability waivers and are fully briefed on safety protocols.
  • Perform daily barn and stable area housekeeping, including facility maintenance.
  • Take on the Barn Host role as needed to welcome guests and provide guidance.
  • Support all ranch duties, such as fencing, gathering firewood, placing mineral blocks, and hay harvest.
  • Move horses to and from pasture on horseback and assist in monitoring trail safety.
  • Collaborate with the team to maintain tack, harnesses, and stable equipment.
  • Report and assist in the repair of any unsafe trails, fences, or other potential hazards.
  • Act as a Ranch ambassador by sharing information about other departments and activities to enhance the guest experience.
Requirements
  • Experience at a guest or dude ranch optional.
  • First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
  • Background in guiding or teaching horseback activities is desirable.
  • Team driving experience and heavy machinery operation experience are a plus.
  • Strong skills in fence and trail maintenance are preferred.
  • Outgoing, friendly, and responsible with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Able to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Flexible with a positive attitude, able to work demanding hours with minimal supervision.

 

Compensation Description:

$14.50 - $16.50/hr +tips Competitive pay commensurate with education and experience.

Due to the nature of our 24-hour operation, there is no guaranteed work schedule. Managers will try to accommodate specific schedule requests, but they are never guaranteed if business volume prohibits.
