Primary Purpose:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Agriculture Science Teacher who is committed to providing an exceptional learning experience for students. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in agricultural sciences, a love for teaching, and a genuine enthusiasm for engaging students in all aspects of the three-circle model of Agriculture Education.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Agricultural Science, Education, or a related experience in the Agriculture field.
  • Teaching certification or relevant experience in agricultural education.
  • Strong understanding of agricultural concepts, practices, and industry trends.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and execute innovative lesson plans incorporating outdoor and hands-on learning experiences.
  • Passion for fostering a love for agriculture and the environment in students.
  • Experience with FFA programs and a demonstrable passion for fostering leadership qualities in students through FFA involvement.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  • Curriculum Development: Develop and implement engaging and innovative curriculum plans that align with agricultural science standards, fostering a deep understanding of agriculture among students.
  • Classroom Instruction: Conduct dynamic and interactive lessons that incorporate hands-on experiences, demonstrations, and outdoor activities to facilitate a comprehensive understanding of agricultural concepts.
  • Outdoor Learning: Utilize the school's outdoor learning area at your school and the CSISD’s 90 acres to create unique educational opportunities, fostering an appreciation for nature and practical application of agricultural principles.
  • Student Engagement: Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation, critical thinking, and exploration in the field of agriculture.
  • After-Hours Engagement: Demonstrate a commitment to student success by being available after hours for additional academic support, extracurricular activities, and participating in agricultural-related clubs or events. Accompany and supervise students at off-campus activities including contests, workshops, and field trips associated with the agricultural science program and FFA.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with fellow educators to integrate agricultural concepts across disciplines and participate in professional development activities to enhance teaching strategies.
  • Safety and Maintenance: Ensure the safety and maintenance of all equipment, tools, and outdoor learning spaces used in agricultural instruction.
  • Leadership Development: Cultivate leadership skills among students through active participation and mentorship within the Future Farmers of America (FFA) program, providing opportunities for growth, responsibility, and community engagement.
  • FFA Engagement: Coordinate FFA activities, events, and competitions, empowering students to develop public speaking, teamwork, and agricultural advocacy skills. Serve as advisor to local FFA chapters, including planning and conducting leadership, citizenship, cooperative, career development, and competitive activities for students at local, regional, and state level.
  • Mentorship: Serve as a mentor to FFA members, guiding and supporting their projects, goals, and personal development within the agricultural community.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).

The employee may spend long hours in intense concentration which requires attention to detail. There are several deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant stress. The employee must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues.

 

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent district and regional travel, occasional statewide travel, prolonged and irregular hours. Regular lifting and carrying moderate weight, frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, and around machinery with moving parts.  Exposure to extreme temperatures and biological and chemical hazards.
