Essential Responsibilities Summary:

Seasonal Farm Workers: 

  • Work within the farm crew to produce fruit, vegetables and herbs for the dining hall and other Chewonki programs. Garden work includes garden bed preparation, planting, irrigation work, weeding, pest management, harvesting, washing, packing, and delivering. 

  • Participate in the daily care of livestock including pastured sheep, pigs, and laying hens. Moving animals and fences daily as part of our rotational grazing system. 

  • During the Camp Chewonki season, integrate campers into various work and educational projects as well as daily tasks on the farm.

  • Rotate chore responsibilities, caring for animals and gardens either on a Tuesday- Saturday or Sunday- Thursday schedule (in collaboration with a year-round farmer) and 1 to 2 nights per week for 15 minute evening barn check shifts. Our summer days begin early and end late.

All Farm Crew members: 

  • Balance production and education within the farm context.  

  • Work on the Chewonki campus and share meals with the community.

  • Take shared responsibility for risk management by using sound judgment, adhering to your skills and Chewonki protocols, and addressing or reporting any safety concerns.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • Must possess a Valid Driver’s License.

  • Must pass a Criminal Background Check and Motor Vehicle Record.

  • Strong interest in education-based, diversified farming. 

  • Experience working in a farm, educational, or recreational setting, preferred.

  • Ability to work long hours in a physically demanding setting.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Willingness to responsibly live and work in a small community.

  • Attend required onboarding and training sessions (in person).

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lb at a time.

  • Must be able to work in an active, outdoor environment in a variety of weather conditions.

  • Must be able to live and work in a camp setting. 

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS

  • Salary: $500/Week

Incentives & Support: Travel stipend, housing and meals included, and a $200 refer-a-friend bonus
