Overview

Talent Solutions is partnering with a family owned Wyoming cattle ranch that has been in operation for over a hundred years to find a dependable Ranch Hand ready to become a long term part of their team. This is a close knit, hands on operation where honesty, hard work, and efficiency are valued above everything else. The family is willing to train the right person, so prior ranching experience is helpful but not required. What matters most is a strong work ethic, a good attitude, and a genuine interest in learning the operation and sticking around.

Responsibilities

  • Rotate cattle through pastures and check water, salt, and mineral
  • Calve out cows and heifers beginning mid March, with heifers starting about two weeks earlier through AI
  • Assist with traditional brandings 
  • AI the heifer herd, turn bulls out, and move cattle to summer grass
  • Operate swathers, balers, rakes, and tractors to put up grass and alfalfa hay
  • Rotate cattle through smaller, cross fenced pastures
  • Check or  move solar powered water systems, springs, creeks, and dams
  • Move electric fence chargers as needed
  • Repair and maintain fences
  • Doctor cattle as needed
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance, minor mechanical repairs, and general shop work
  • Welding as needed
  • Precondition calves 
  • Wean calves in October
  • Pregnancy check replacement heifers first, then cull opens
  • Assist with general ranch maintenance and infrastructure upkeep

Qualifications

 

  • Experience working around cattle 
  • Valid driver's license
  • Strong work ethic and dependable attendance
  • Honest, trustworthy, and self motivated
  • Ability to work independently once trained
  • Comfortable being part of a small family operation

Preferred

  • Experience operating hay equipment and tractors
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Welding experience
  • Fencing experience
  • Horse experience is welcomed, though the operation runs primarily on four wheelers and side by sides for efficiency

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive monthly salary of $2,500 to $3,500 depending on experience
  • Housing provided, a two bedroom house located about a quarter mile from the main house
