Position Summary: We are seeking a reliable, hardworking Ranch Hand to support the daily operations of our ranch. This role involves hands-on “cowboy work” and is ideal for individuals—or a husband-and-wife team—who enjoy working outdoors, are experienced with cattle, and take pride in maintaining land, livestock, and equipment. This position offers the opportunity for long-term growth, with potential to transition into a Ranch Manager role based on performance and leadership capability.
Key Roles / Responsibilities:
- Provide daily care for livestock, with a primary focus on cattle, including feeding, watering, and monitoring overall health
- Perform routine cattle work such as gathering, moving, sorting, branding, and medicating livestock
- Assist with herd management activities, including seasonal work such as calving
- Maintain and repair fences, gates, corrals, barns, and other ranch infrastructure
- Operate ranch vehicles and equipment (e.g., trucks, tractors, ATVs) safely and efficiently
- Observe and report signs of injury, illness, or distress in livestock
- Perform general ranch upkeep, including grounds maintenance, facility repairs, and cleaning as needed
- Follow all ranch safety protocols and operational procedures
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Previous ranching, farming, or cattle experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to perform physically demanding work in varying weather conditions
- Working knowledge of livestock handling and basic animal health practices
- Experience operating ranch equipment and performing basic mechanical tasks is a plus
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
- Candidates must provide their own horse(s); however, the ranch will provide boarding accommodations and cover routine upkeep costs for the horses
Working Conditions:
- Bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, sitting stand, walk, kneel, stoop, squat, pull, push, climb, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and see and standing (occasionally) for long periods of time.
- The essential duties of this position require moderate to heavy lifting and carrying.
- Prolonged periods of sitting on a tractor or front end loader.
- Exposure to moderate noise levels, vibrations, and bright lights; and exposure to dust, fumes, and gases; and all climate types including hot and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, etc.
- Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, breathing protection, and hard hats when needed.
- Able to work under stressful conditions at times.
- React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.=Must be able to move and lift to 40-pound wooden skid or pallet.
- Ability to travel throughout facility as required to conduct safety inspections.
- Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
- Must be able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions.
- Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed.
- Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
