RANCH FOREMAN

Full-Time | Central Oregon

We’re looking for an experienced, dependable Ranch Foreman to join our team and help keep a busy working ranch running smoothly. Open to having a couple or family join us.

We run approximately 75 cow/calf pairs plus bulls and a butcher steer herd.  Looking to grow the cow herd to 100-125.  We run about 50 – 80 pigs and 20-60 sheep

Selling meat direct to consumer is our main business but we also do some agritourism including a fall pumpkin patch (5 weeks) and summer weddings.  Although we only operate a few hundred acres, it is a very busy operation and the irrigation is complex.

We do not sell hay but we do put up our own.

This position is 5.5 – 6 day a week job, especially in summer.  Days are pretty short in the winter.  Must be willing to live on site (3 bedroom house).

What You’ll Do

  • Care for and manage cattle, pigs, sheep, horses and a few others – including calving, lambing and farrowing
  • Build, repair, and maintain fencing
  • Operate and maintain irrigation systems – pivot, wheel lines, hand lines, pods, flood – we are in the high desert and irrigate 6 months of the year.  This is a significant part of summer work
  • Operate tractors, skid steer, trucks, and other ranch equipment
  • Operate hay equipment
  • Be comfortable dealing with people that come on the property for events or to purchase meat
  • Perform basic to advanced mechanical repairs and maintenance
  • Maintain corrals, barns, water systems, and other ranch infrastructure
  • Help with haying, feeding, livestock moves, and general ranch operations
  • Troubleshoot problems and figure out how to get things working again
  • Keep equipment and work areas maintained and organized
  • Work independently while coordinating with the ranch owners and other employees
  • Supervise less experienced hands
  • Manage livestock records
  • Branding and doctoring cattle

We’re Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has hands-on ranch or agricultural experience
  • Has managed employees
  • Is experienced working with cattle and livestock
  • Has strong fencing skills
  • Understands irrigation systems and maintenance
  • Roping/working cattle by horseback – we use atv’s and horses, depending on how much time we have.  This is not a daily riding job though.
  • Has solid mechanical and equipment-repair skills
  • Can safely operate tractors and other farm/ranch equipment
  • Is dependable, hardworking, and takes pride in their work
  • Can identify problems and figure out practical solutions
  • Works well independently and takes initiative
  • Is comfortable working outdoors in all kinds of Central Oregon weather
  • Has a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
  • Can pass background check and drug test
