The successful candidate for Middle School Agriculture Teacher provides engaging, standards-aligned instruction that introduces students to the foundations of agriculture, food systems, environmental science, natural resources, and related career pathways. The teacher creates a positive, hands-on learning environment that promotes curiosity, leadership, problem-solving, and real-world application. The position may also include oversight of agricultural projects, school-based learning experiences, and support for student leadership opportunities such as FFA or other agricultural organizations, if applicable.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate instruction in agricultural education for middle school learners.
- Design lessons that align with state standards, district curriculum, and career readiness goals.
- Incorporate hands-on, project-based, and experiential learning activities related to agriculture, horticulture, animal science, natural resources, food science, agribusiness, and environmental stewardship.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of diverse learners.
- Establish and maintain a safe, orderly, and supportive classroom and laboratory/shop environment.
- Teach and enforce proper safety procedures for tools, equipment, materials, and laboratory activities.
- Assess student learning using a variety of formative and summative measures and use data to adjust instruction.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and progress.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, counselors, and administrators.
- Collaborate with grade-level teams, special education staff, related service providers, and support staff to ensure student success.
- Integrate technology appropriately to enhance instruction, communication, and student engagement.
- Promote awareness of agriculture-related careers and postsecondary pathways.
- Support student participation in leadership development activities, service learning, school/community partnerships, and agricultural clubs or organizations, when applicable.
- Assist in the care, management, and inventory of classroom, lab, greenhouse, garden, or agricultural program materials and equipment, if applicable.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional learning, curriculum development, and district initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.

- Knowledge of middle level teaching and learning practices.
- Knowledge of agricultural education content and current industry trends.
- Ability to create engaging, relevant, and hands-on learning experiences.
- Ability to manage a classroom effectively and build positive relationships with students.
- Ability to differentiate instruction and provide appropriate supports for varied learning needs.
- Ability to maintain a safe instructional environment during labs and practical activities.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Ability to use instructional technology, student data systems, and digital learning tools effectively.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture Education, Education, or a related field required.
- Valid state teaching certificate/certification appropriate for the assignment required.
- Prior teaching or student teaching experience at the middle or secondary level preferred.
- Experience with agricultural labs, school gardens, greenhouse operations, or supervised agricultural experiences preferred.
- Knowledge of career and technical education, leadership development, and student organizations such as FFA preferred.
- Current clearances and background checks as required by state law and district policy.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move throughout classrooms, labs, gardens, greenhouses, or outdoor learning spaces.
- Ability to lift and carry instructional materials and equipment consistent with program needs.
- Ability to safely supervise students in indoor and outdoor instructional settings.
Work Environment
- School-based setting with possible instruction in classrooms, laboratories, greenhouses, outdoor learning spaces, and school grounds.
- Exposure to typical materials, tools, equipment, soil, plants, and other agriculture-related resources associated with the program.
