JOB SUMMARY
The Livestock Team Assistant provides year-round support to the NES Livestock Coordinator and CTE Agriculture Teacher to ensure the daily care, feeding, watering, and safety of all animals within the NES Livestock Team program. This role helps maintain a safe, clean environment for the animals and supports activities, events and projects related to the livestock program.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Level One IVP Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Willingness to learn animal care routines.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Previous experience working with animals is helpful but not required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Feed and water animals according to daily schedules and specific care plans.
- Monitor animals' general health and report any concerns to the Livestock Coordinator immediately.
- Assist in maintaining clean, safe animal enclosures and surrounding work areas.
- Ensure all gates, cages and pens are secure to prevent escape or injury.
- Support with livestock events and special projects as directed.
- Follow all safety procedures for handling animals and using equipment.
- Help transport food, supplies or animals as needed.
- Serve as a positive role model for students working with the Livestock Team.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Livestock Coordinator.

The employee must use hands, arms and fingers to input data, handle, feel or reach; employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs. such as boxes, supplies, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud and can vary in temperature. The nature of this position is fast-paced and may occasionally be thought of as stressful. Through interaction with the public and other district employees, the employee may encounter different scents.
