Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Gardener to join our team at Cumberland Estate. The ideal candidate will have a strong appreciation for nature and a commitment to maintaining beautiful landscapes on approximately 6,000 acres of land.

This role involves various gardening tasks, including landscape maintenance, lawn care, and the use of both hand and power tools. The Gardener will play a vital role in enhancing the aesthetic appeal of our grounds (particularly trees, bushes, and plants) while ensuring the health and growth of the acreage. Cumberland Estate & Tidewater Big Bend Foundation are a collection of historical lands and homes and includes nearly 6,000 acres of mixed timber, pine, pasture and crops in the New Kent, VA area. (Located between Richmond, VA and Williamsburg, VA)

Responsibilities

• Perform landscape maintenance tasks, including planting, pruning, weeding, and mulching.
• Conduct regular lawn care activities such as mowing, fertilizing, and aerating.
• Utilize power tools and hand tools effectively for various gardening tasks.
• Assist in the operation of greenhouse activities, including planting seeds and caring for young plants.
• Irrigate plants and maintain proper watering schedules to ensure optimal growth.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of gardening tools and equipment.
• Monitor plant health and identify any pests or diseases that may require attention.

Skills

• Proficient in landscape maintenance techniques and practices as it pertains to Plants, bushes, and trees.
• Experience with lawn care methods, including mowing and fertilization.
• Familiarity with operating power tools safely and effectively.
• Ability to irrigate efficiently using various watering systems.
• Strong grounds keeping skills to maintain overall property appearance.
• Experience in growing a variety of plants, bushes, and flowers is beneficial
• Competence in using hand tools for gardening tasks.
