Position: Field Research Agronomist

As a field research agronomist at the North Central Research Station, you will be responsible for the execution and maintenance of replicated field trials across more than 200 acres. This includes managing all aspects of field research, such as planting, treatment application, data collection, and harvest, as well as scouting and plot maintenance. The Field Research Agronomist will also have the opportunity to assist with greenhouse research and production agriculture as a part of the North Central Research Station.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate field scale equipment modified for research plots including planters, sprayers, harvesters and tillage equipment
- Assist NCRS with research operations including but not limited to plot establishment, scouting, and collection of data through harvest
- Plan and organize execution of plot protocols including timing, equipment needs, product needs and day to day activities
- Collaborate with NCRS team members to design detailed experimental protocols
- Innovate and experiment with new technologies to drive research advancements
- Assist with annual maintenance and updates of equipment
- Maintaining computerized Records of operational tasks
- Maintain and operate aerial data collection devices
- Follow all safety policies, procedures, and protocols at all times.
- Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
- Responsible for other duties as deemed necessary by management.

What we’re looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in agriculture-related field, preferred
- Have or ability to obtain a Michigan Commercial Applicator License
- Ability to operate field scale equipment such as combines, sprayers, tractors and planters required.
- Field plot research experience
- Row Crop Experience
- Proficient computer skills in a variety of programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and Zoom
- High focus on attention to detail
- Positive attitude and work ethic
- Ability to stand; sit; lift; squat; stoop and move up to 50 pounds
