Farm Manager
Schloss Hollow Farms LLC
Springfield, West Virginia
Who We Are
Schloss Hollow Farms is a farm in Hampshire County, WV, owned by the Schlossnagle family. We’re building a new farm that feeds people, supports our on-site lodge, and cares for the land. Our goal is to establish a small hyper-diverse farm using methods that protect nature and reinforce healthy local ecosystems.
We’re now hiring a full-time Farm Manager to get us up and running, and grow as we expand.
What The Farm Will Do
As a small family-owned farm, we are focused on sustainable and diverse production of agriculture goods (we're not a one-crop facility). We have ambitions to grow in four different directions at once:
- herbs/fruits/vegetables (primarily by greenhouse and including some uncommon species)
- working orchard with peach, apple, pecan, and potentially reviving the (hybrid) American chestnut
- flowers and other gardening horticulture
- small livestock (chickens for small-scale egg production, rabbits and goats for meat)
What You’ll Do
- Help plan an implementation for what this farm will do
- Build and manage our new greenhouse (3m x 20m, under construction)
- Start planting our orchard
- Establish our small livestock program and facilities
- Operate and keep in good shape our equipment: Kubota tractors, Rivian pickup, and tools (including welding gear)
- Manage deliveries, contractors, and supply orders
- Determine additional labor requirements and help hire part-time helpers.
- Supervise part-time helpers and keep things running smoothly
- Mow fields and trails, and help keep the grounds looking nice for guests
What You Should Know or Be Able to Do
- Grow vegetables, herbs, or fruit crops (greenhouse or orchard experience is a big plus)
- Run and do basic maintenance on tractors, loaders, and other small equipment
- Be organized and punctual—you’ll keep a visible daily to-do list and check things off as they get done
- Write and speak clearly: you’ll talk with the owner, vendors, helpers, and visitors almost every day
- Be strong enough to do outdoor work in all kinds of weather
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with greenhouse setup or orchard planting
- Familiarity with rabbits, or other small livestock
What We’re Looking For in a Person
- Kind, honest, and respectful
- A doer—not just a planner—who’s ready to get their hands dirty
- Someone who believes in farming that helps the land, not harms it
Pay & Perks
- $28/hour, full-time
- Schedule flexibility
- Access to fresh farm food: veggies, eggs, herbs, and more
- A growing role as the farm and on-site lodge expand
