Summary:

 Our Equine department is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic, full-time stable hand to join the team! Each workday will require participation in the operations of a premier equestrian center. The Equine Stable Hand will work Sunday – Thursday but must be able to be flexible if needed. The Equine department is a small team working together to support each other. If you have a passion for education, equine, and the desire to keep a clean and neat facility every day, you may be a Greenacres person! 

 

Responsibilities:

Stable Chores:

  • Follow provided Daily Sheets to complete daily tasks in timely manner
  • Follow the provided feed schedule, to include hay, grain and water
  • Clean and rebed stalls to Greenacres standards
  • Clean water troughs, feed buckets, water buckets
  • Turning horses out to pastures by hand or running the herd out
  • Bringing horses in from pastures
  • Complete daily projects
  • Follow and complete med charts with assistance as needed that are developed by the Stable Supervisor or Equine Manager.
  • Follow provided SOP (Standard Operation Procedure) documents related to feeding, winter blanketing, fly gear, and other animal care needs.
  • Maintain all equine facilities: sweeping, mopping, dusting, washing stable laundry, etc.
  • Notify Stable Supervisor when grain and/or shavings need to be ordered.
  • Contact Stable Supervisor for directions on solo days: (blanketing needs, horses in/out for farrier, horses in/out due to weather, etc.)
  • Specific to winter: independently clean manure out of dry lot

 

Miscellaneous Duties:

  • Assist the Stable Supervisor with putting up and taking down temp-line.
  • At the direction of Stable Supervisor- Independently moving horses to a new pasture section
  • Contribute to team meetings to maintain the highest level of care of the horses.
  • Participate in conferences/ workshops that are specific to enhance knowledge, and provide networks with others in the equine industry.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary.
Requirements
  • Minimum of six months in equestrian husbandry experience
  • Manage feeding and watering of horses, ensuring that their daily quota and requirements are met
  • Must be able to lift at least 50lbs and stand for long hours
  • Clean stables to include putting down new bedding for assigned, to ensure their comfort and wellbeing
  • Turning Horses In and Out of Pasture: Horses are often led out to pasture more than one at a time; additional skills required include application and removal of fly boots, fly sheets, blankets, etc.
  • Maintaining all Facilities: Includes sweeping, mopping, dusting, washing stable laundry, cleaning of all education facilities, etc.
  • Background in equine husbandry
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal relation skills
  • Desire for cleanliness of the work environment
  • Exceptional time management skills
  • Maintain efficiency without direct supervision and be self-motivated
  • Support the education staff and Stable Supervisor on an as-needed basis
  • Ability to physically meet the requirements listed above
  • Ability to successfully pass a post-offer pre-employment drug test and fingerprint FBI background screen
  • Ability to assure Greenacres values of QQQ, Grace, Giving, Generative, Good Neighbor Policy, and Green
