Barn Manager – Dressage Facility (Delano, MN) Position Overview

We are seeking a reliable, experienced Barn Manager to oversee daily operations at a private, family-owned dressage facility in Delano, MN. This is a year-round, full-time position with housing provided nearby.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who prioritizes horse welfare, communicates effectively, and works collaboratively with staff while maintaining high standards across the property.

Schedule & Work Expectations

• Typical hours: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM (non-show days)
• 5–6 days per week, including one weekend day (rotating schedule)
• Night check at 8:00 PM (may be required as needed)
• 1-hour onsite lunch break (timing may vary daily)
• Limited to no travel to shows

Compensation & Benefits

• Housing provided: 3-bedroom, 2.5-bath home located 3 minutes from the barn
  • Preferred that the manager resides in the home due to proximity for emergencies
• Paid Time Off: 8 days annually
• Unpaid Time Off: 8 additional days annually
  • Time off should be scheduled responsibly to ensure adequate staffing coverage

Key Responsibilities Barn & Horse Care

• Ensure all horses receive exceptional daily care with attention to their physical and mental well-being
• Prepare and administer feed, grain, supplements, and water
• Manage blanketing routines
• Assist with veterinary, farrier, and bodywork appointments
• Apply basic equine first aid when necessary

Facility & Property Oversight

• Oversee cleanliness and organization of the barn and surrounding areas
• Direct maintenance of horse-related areas, including:
  • Stalls and paddocks
  • Pastures and turnout lanes
  • Indoor and outdoor arenas
  • Hacking trails and hay storage
• Drag arenas and assist with general upkeep as needed
• Coordinate with and direct the Property Manager on horse-related maintenance

Staff Management

• Hire, train, and schedule barn staff
• Provide daily leadership and work alongside team members
• Assign and monitor completion of seasonal and daily chores

Operations & Coordination

• Monitor facility conditions and proactively communicate issues
• Meet with vendors, provide direction, and ensure work meets high standards
• Adjust barn routines as needed during maintenance or vendor projects
• Run occasional errands (e.g., picking up hay, supplies, fueling vehicles)

Qualifications

• Strong experience in horse care, preferably within a dressage environment
• Knowledge of basic equine first aid
• Ability to perform physical barn work (mucking, lifting, turnout, etc.)
• Proven leadership and team management skills
• Reliable, organized, and able to problem-solve independently
