PURPOSE

The Director of Agronomy Sales is responsible for leading and executing strategic sales initiatives that drive market share growth across Central Valley Ag’s Agronomy Division including: Crop Protection, Fertilizer, Seed, Precision Ag, and Services. This role provides leadership to a team of Regional Sales Managers (RSMs), ensuring alignment with CVA’s mission and vision.

The Director plays a critical role in building and implementing sales strategies, developing high-performing sales teams, and ensuring tactical execution at the field level. Through coaching, marketing alignment, and strategic planning, the Director will grow CVA’s footprint, capture new business, and deliver innovative, relationship-driven solutions that meet the evolving needs of our member-owners.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

40% Coaching & Leading

Supervise a team of Regional Sales Managers and Seed Development Manager(s), including hiring, onboarding, mentoring, evaluating performance, and managing promotions, performance improvement plans (PIPs), or terminations.

  • Lead the development and execution of CVA’s sales process, from classroom to field, including field-based sales coaching and sales call expectations.
  • Specifically develop the RSM Team to create future growth to meet the needs of the grower of tomorrow through a defined plan.
  • Coordinate and assist in strategic planning to adapt to the evolving agronomy landscape.
  • Leverage AI, digital agronomy platforms, and precision tools to strengthen sales strategies and enhance customer value.
  • Promote adoption of technology-based solutions to enhance efficiency, customer insights, and sales performance.
  • Set and communicate clear performance expectations for RSMs and their teams.
  • Lead regular team communication including weekly team calls, bi-weekly 1-on-1s, monthly team meetings, and bi-annual reviews.
  • Develop and utilize internal sales training platforms, process and monitor engagement with the agronomy sales team.
  • Asist in managing educational needs of the Agronomy sales team on Chemical, Fertilizer, Seed and Technology.
  • Align with Talent Division to assist in recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of sales talent, ag sales professionals and. Interns.

30% Sales & Marketing Functions

  • Work with the Agronomy Leadership and Marketing teams to develop and execute marketing programs, product and service offerings, and strategies to drive market share growth and margin expansion.
  • Provide leadership in setting short and long-term sales goals tied to product segments and services.
  • Assist in sales forecasting, sales incentive development, alignment for the Agronomy Sales Division.
  • Responsible for overall sales revenue, margin, in all departments of the agronomy division.
  • Establish a ride along protocol to develop and monitor time management and prospecting practices. 
  • Execute CVA’s customer segmentation model through the RSM’s and sales team.
  • Ensure consistent execution of sales expectations through RSMs and sales teams across the territory to meet or exceed the annual sales forecast. 
  • Development and execution of regional business plans put forth to align with division growth goals.
  • Collaborate with Grain, Energy, and Feed divisions to create cross-functional selling opportunities and integrated solutions.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and the vision to execute the Elite Network Partner Strategy. 
  • Drive and grow market share inside of the CVA Elite portfolio, by identifying markets at the Region level.
  • Build a working relationship with the Top 20 CVA customers with their assigned FSA/RSM.

15% Strategic Planning

  • Lead the strategic sales planning process for the Agronomy Division, aligning execution with CVA’s vision, mission, and competitive market position.
  • Develop actionable plans to drive market share growth, customer acquisition, and product expansion.
  • Collaborate with leadership to grow and expand the CVA Elite brand through branding, product line development, and tactical marketing.
  • Implement and refine structural incentive programs that support volume growth and profitability goals.

10% Cross-Departmental Collaboration

  • Ensure alignment between Agronomy Sales and other departments, including Operations, Credit, Talent, Marketing and Business Services.
  • Hold Cross Department meetings to ensure a better understanding of responsibilities and opportunities 
  • Collaborate with Area operation VP’s to ensure Agronomy services are delivered at the highest level of customer needs.

5% Alignment with Industry Partners

  • Leverage market intelligence and competitive analysis to guide decision-making and identify growth opportunities.
  • Support supplier collaboration that enhances CVA’s ability to deliver value-added programs and services.
  • Build and maintain key external relationships with suppliers, cooperatives, and strategic business partners.  

 

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Agribusiness, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of agronomy sales experience, with 5+ years in senior leadership.
  • Proven track record of leading large sales teams, driving market share growth, and achieving financial goals.
  • Strong understanding of agronomic product lines, precision ag, and the retail ag marketplace.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and coaching skills.
  • Ability to analyze data, manage large budgets, and lead cross-functional collaboration.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office, CRM platforms, Power BI, and virtual collaboration tools.
  • High ethical standards, strong organizational skills, and a customer-first mindset.

 

Work Environment:

  • This role requires approximately 50–60% travel, including farm visits, regional meetings, and team coaching.
  • Remaining time will be split between in-office (York, NE HQ or regional locations) and virtual collaboration.
