Job Purpose Statement:
Hood River Valley High School is seeking a visionary educator for the CTE Agriculture Pathway focused on teaching our students about the agricultural industry at Hood River Valley High School beginning with the 2026-2027 school year.
Advanced degrees are not required for this CTE position, but prior successful experience in relevant agricultural fabrication, metals and wood, animal science, horticulture, agricultural business, and agricultural leadership.
Possess or have the ability to readily obtain a valid Oregon CTE Teaching License and possess knowledge of the CTE subject area required.

Successful applicants should have the following skills:

Technical Expertise: Significant experience working within the agricultural industry (need to have 2,000 verifiable hours, employment, internships, volunteer hours).

Certification: Must hold (or be eligible for) an Oregon CTE Teaching License through the Oregon Teacher Standards & Practices Commission and the Oregon Department of Education. Continuing education may be required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures.
- Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
- Plans a program of study that meets learning standards and the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Plans and supervises purposeful assignments.
- Teach occupational knowledge and skills in the areas of safety, machine processes, metal fabrication, welding, heat treating, cutting, communications, and career preparation.
- Have knowledge of industry standards and testing requirements, and the implementation of such tests.
- Promptly reports any serious accident or illness affecting students in the teacher’s charge or any incident which might affect the school, teachers or students therein.
- Develop, implement, and maintain a system to track and maintain tools and equipment (loss prevention and continued maintenance).
- Ensures that materials and equipment are properly used, maintained, and stored, and that inventory records are accurate and current.
- Effectively collaborate with regional CTE teams as well as the building CTE team.
- Match activities and materials to individual and group skills and needs. Uses a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Assesses, tracks, and provides students with prompt, frequent feedback on their progress and assignments.
- Uses a grading system that is consistent, fair, and supportable.
- Tests and evaluates students’ abilities and progress.
- Prepares report cards and progress reports.
- Facilitates conferences with students and parents.
- Completes required paperwork in a timely manner.
- Conducts appropriate assessments of students’ work and maintains accurate and regular data on students in areas of attendance, grades, and IEP progress, if applicable, and implements 504 and student health care plans.
- Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
- Assists the administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Informs parents of student progress concerning academic achievement and behavior through conferences, written messages, telephone calls, and/or email.
- Maintain a budget with a positive balance, maintain, and turn in all associated records in a timely manner.
- Attend all required meetings.
- Actively partners with the local Community College to create a positive transition for students.
- Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records and inquiries.
- Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
- Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students.
- Complies with applicable District, state, local, and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
- Adheres to all standards established by the Teachers Standards and Practices Commission for Competent and Ethical Educator.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance to meet the needs of the students and the expectations of the District.
- Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to learn and proficiently use the following programs strongly preferred: Synergy, MS Word & Excel and Google Suite Apps. Ability to type accurately and proficiently.
- Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents, members of the community and others including vendors, law enforcement and other agencies.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with constant interruptions.
- Valid Driver License and ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card.
- Skills to motivate students, communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, direct support personnel, evaluate performance.
- Knowledge of age appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, education code, appropriate instructional subjects.
- Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, other school personnel, meet schedule and deadlines. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/accommodation/ field of vision.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced degrees are not required for this CTE position, but prior successful experience in relevant agricultural fabrication, metals and wood, animal science, horticulture, agricultural business, and agricultural leadership.
- Skills to motivate and communicate with diverse backgrounds. Experience working with youth preferred.
- Possesses or have the ability to readily obtain an Oregon CTE Teaching license with an endorsement to perform this job, or qualifying, verifiable industry experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High school teaching experience is preferred.
- Experience with using a variety of different instructional strategies is preferred.
- Experience working with English Language Learners is preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.
