Midway University is seeking a high energy, well organized, Assistant Farm Manager. We are a teaching farm and our staff, along with our Equine faculty offer our students hands-on learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom environment. This is a full-time, non-exempt position that will assist our Farm Manager in managing and maintaining our equipment, equine facilities and the care, training and conditioning of our western herd. Hours will vary based upon the needs of the farm. Weekend and holiday work will be required.
Examples of work duties, include but are not limited to:
- Supervise usage, training and conditioning of western horse herd
- Coordinate horse use schedules with the Western Team Head Coach and observe practices.
- Assist in the oversight of the University farm including facilities, equipment, and pastures.
- Assist in oversight for students and student workers during their mandatory chore times.
- Will be acting manager when Farm Manager is out.
- High school diploma or GED required, Bachelor's preferred. A minimum of 2 years of farm experience required.
- Must be able to use typical farm equipment (tractor, drags, truck and trailer, mower).
- Knowledge of equine related veterinarian equipment is a must.
- Ability to evaluate equine lameness and apply basic equine first aid is required.
- Ability to develop feeding plans for different classes of horses, and pasture management required.
- Experience working with students and/or employees of differing ability levels with horses preferred.
