RESPONSIBILITIES:

The ACI Intern will work closely with the Operations and Agronomy teams to drive success for our local farmers, their families, and communities in a variety of roles over the internship.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Learning and developing operations related skills to best understand overall function of the business;
  • Learning to safely operate and drive a forklift;
  • Shadow seed operations on daily responsibilities;
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of facility;
  • Assist in planning and planting of test plots;
  • Build working knowledge of common agronomic problems and apply scouting principles;
  • Assist with data entry as necessary;
  • Attend customer appreciation events, and product-company trainings.

TIMEFRAME:

The timeframe for this position is Mid-May through Mid-August (summer school break timeframe).

LOCATION:

The position will be based near Fisher, Minnesota and you will provide support to the Agronomy Team in Northwestern Minnesota. The intern is responsible for housing and transportation to and from the base location.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Ideally pursuing a degree in a related field of study
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job. The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Regularly sitting, talking and hearing in an office environment as well as outdoor activities and responsibilities, exposed to weather and external environments
  • Regularly reaching with hands and arms
  • The ability to identify and distinguish colors is necessary including the ability to see at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more to accomplish the essential duties
  • Ability to:
    • Lift a minimum of 50 lbs+;
    • Stand for extended periods of time;
    • Work in dust;
    • Open traps on trailerstrucks;

Example intern schedule:

Agronomy

  1. Start of summer
    1. Complete safety training
    2. Shadow seed operations on daily responsibilities
    3. Learn to drive a forklift and load products for growers
    4. Learn basic operations of seed plant and seed handling
    5. Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of facility
    6. Assist in planning and planting of test plots
  2. Remaining time
    1. Build working knowledge of common agronomic problems and apply scouting
    2. Learn to take comprehensive scouting notes and discuss findings
    3. Receive scouting instructions
    4. Assist with data-entry as necessary
    5. Attend customer appreciation events, and product-company trainings
  3. Intern Project (optional)
    1. Complete a project of intern design
    2. Presentation to location staff; possibly invite to present at seed days
    3. Prepare and test for professional applicators license if applicable

  • Shadowing Product Reps
  • Shadowing Merchandising
  • Shadowing in Grain Operations
  • Shadowing seed accounting
  • Hands on experience assist in planting/scouting test plots
  • Scouting of seed production fields
  • Present for visit with customers

Marketing

Assist in planning summer appreciation events - planning and scheduling:

  • Design layout and text for ACI informational materials
  • Assist with event planning for customer outreach events
  • Collaborate with company partners on joint projects
