JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Natural Resource Agriculture Specialist works under the direct supervision of the Hualapai Department of Natural Resources (HDNR) Director. The Agriculture Specialist administers the legal requirement of the Hualapai Tribal Livestock Inspection program. Develops, compiles and reviews planning and contract funding documents for tribal lands and resources. Gathers and analyzes data in concert with Tribal, Bureau, and other agencies, in preparation of land management files, reports, and resource accomplishments and conditions. Conducts and facilitates public meetings with the Hualapai Nation Soil and Water Conservation District (HNSWCD), Agriculture Extension Program, Indian Agriculture Council, Tribal livestock associations, cultural resource team, youth organizations, community and tribal members, clearly explaining to them the issues, concerns and opportunities that are identified through the project planning process. Shall listen to and document the public’s concerns and opinions. Coordinate with the Hualapai Interdisciplinary Team, with the project development and studies designed to ensure compliance with Tribal, federal regulations and laws, including the Tribal Historic Preservation Office, Endangered Species Act, Environmental Protection Act, and National Environmental Policy Act. Develops natural resource projects in conjunction with other tribal departments, including Natural and Cultural Resources, Hualapai Game and Fish, Public Works and Planning Department in accordance with Tribal strategic planning goals and objectives. Works with outside resources to develop appropriate informational material and media. Works with other interdisciplinary managers, from outside agencies, tribal, state and federal entities and contractors to provide natural resource management recommendations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

· Assists HDNR Director with scheduled meetings and assigned project management tasks

· Coordinates and manages the Hualapai Tribe Livestock Inspection program in accordance with Hualapai Tribal Ordnance 2B.

· Agriculture Program coordinator works with HDNR Agriculture, Wildlife Fisheries and Parks, Range Water, Air and Water Program Staff.

· Develops and maintains per and post file management project planning documents.

· Coordinates with USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), Farm Bill program funding.

· Works with National Native Agriculture Organizations and Non-Profits

· Coordinates with Hualapai Nation Soil and Water Conservation District.

· Coordinates with University of Arizona Extension Service and Northern Arizona Extention.

· Coordinates with Hualapai Tribal Youth Council, 4H, Boys and Girls Club, Elderly Program, community and Cultural Resources organizations.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

 

· Must have a High School Diploma or GED.

· Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural Resources Management or related field experience preferred and/or 10 years’ experience in agriculture/natural resources related fields.

· Must have administrative ability and professional knowledge of resource management.

· Knowledge and skill in computer software, electronic technology and GIS/mapping

· Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills.

· Must be a team player to integrate with other programs within the Department.

· Must be willing to attend and receive training related to the position.

· Submit to and pass a pre employment and random drug/alcohol screening

· Must have a current driver’s license and be eligible for tribe’s insurance.

· Must support the department with other duties as assigned.
