Position Summary
The Agriculture Science Teacher will provide engaging, hands-on instruction in agricultural education while developing student leadership through FFA activities. In addition to classroom teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate will teach Floral Design, serve as an FFA Advisor, and assist with the management of student livestock projects and agricultural facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Classroom Instruction
- Teach Agriculture Science courses in accordance with state standards and district curriculum.
- Teach Floral Design and prepare students for industry certifications and competitions.
- Develop lesson plans that incorporate classroom, laboratory, and experiential learning opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress.
FFA Leadership
- Serve as an FFA Advisor and actively support the local FFA chapter.
- Coordinate and supervise FFA meetings, leadership activities, contests, conventions, and community service projects.
- Assist students in preparing for Leadership Development Events (LDEs) and Career Development Events (CDEs).
- Promote student participation in FFA programs and activities.
Livestock and Agricultural Facility Management
- Assist students with livestock projects and preparation for local, county, major, and state livestock shows.
- Help oversee the care, feeding, and management of show animals.
- Monitor and maintain agricultural facilities, barns, greenhouses, and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures and animal welfare standards.
- Work collaboratively with students, parents, and community partners to support agricultural projects.
Additional Responsibilities
- Attend after-school, evening, and weekend events as required.
- Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, staff, agricultural organizations, and community stakeholders.
- Support recruitment and retention efforts for the agriculture program.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education, Animal Science, or related field.
- Valid state teaching certification in Agricultural Science.
- Experience teaching Floral Design.
- Experience with livestock production, animal husbandry, and show animal management.
- Demonstrated success as an FFA Advisor or involvement with agricultural youth organizations.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
