POSITION: Jr/Sr Agricultural Science Teacher and FFA Advisor

 

REPORTS TO: Jr./Sr. High School Administration

 

SALARY RANGE: Salary is based on off degree and years of service as per the current CBA

 

HOURS OF WORK: Between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. (8 hours per day)

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

Our Jr/Sr High School Agriculture Teacher and FFA Advisor will be responsible for educating students, teachers, administration, community members and others about agriculture and FFA. This new position will work closely with the current agriculture teacher and FFA Advisor to continue to develop our program, as well as the FFA. Candidates should have a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and outstanding communication skills. This new position will also be sharing responsibilities for our school farm. Candidates must have a willingness to stay up to date with current agriculture topics, especially those affecting our community and students.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 
  • Conduct an instructional program that educates students about career pathways in agriculture that can be used as a guide to achieving necessary skills for continued education and employment which includes preparing materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
  • Enhance youth leadership and FFA as an integral part of instruction, as FFA acts as an intracurricular and extracurricular organization.
  • Provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to compete in a global economy.
  • Remain abreast and inform students about agriculture and agricultural literacy.
  • Create lesson plans that are in conformity with school policy, for all courses offered and provide instructional materials and instructional methods used to make teaching and learning effective.
  • Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.
  • Oversee Supervised Agricultural Experience programs of all students who receive instruction by assisting students in selecting a program that fits their interests and abilities; maintaining records, locating training stations, and making supervisory visits during school year and during summer month.
  • Supervise and maintain the school agriculture property (farm, greenhouse, etc…) used for students supervised agricultural experience.
  • Plan and conduct an organized program of instruction and/or community involvement with adults. This may include, but not limited to alumni, young farmers, and booster clubs. Most of this instruction will be given after school, at night and during the summer.
  • Prepare and submit FFA rosters, entries, registrations, etc. required by the local, district, area, state, and office promptly, and keep an accurate file copy of all records and reports.
  • Attend area, state, and national training meetings.
  • Be willing to serve as advisor for the FFA chapter.
  • Assist students in coordinating FFA activities at the local, district, state and national levels.
  • Prepare and train FFA and agriculture contest teams and entries.
  • Assist students in preparing applications for proficiency awards, State and American Degrees, etc.
  • Assist students in conducting a public relations program for the local FFA chapter and agriculture department.
  • Bonus: Interested in developing a relationship with the local 4-H, Farm Bureau, American Legion, and other businesses and entities in the community.
 

 

 

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in agricultural education or a related field.

 

LICENSING: Must hold or be able to obtain an Indiana State Practitioner’s License in Agricultural Science in grades 7-12 w/ Career and Technical Education endorsement (7-12).

 

CONTINUING EDUCATION: Must be willing to submit to continuing training as required by the State or the school to maintain the position.

 

EXPERIENCE: Related job field work experience with demonstrated ability to work without constant supervision.

 

REQUIRED PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to sit, stand, walk, ascend/descend stairs, use hands to finger, handle or feel; talk and hear.

 

REQUIRED GENERAL SKILLS: Exceptional written and oral communication skills; ability to process tasks using internal software, including current media center software, internet and generally accepted office software such as word and excel. Exceptional organizational skills. Act as an emotional support system for all students and teachers within Lakeland’s school district.
