The Agricultural Equipment Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and diagnostics of a wide range of agricultural machinery and equipment. This role plays a vital part in ensuring equipment uptime and reliability for Schlatter’s Inc. customers. It requires mechanical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to safety and service excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Repair & Maintenance
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and emergency repairs on tractors, tile plows, excavators, and other ag-related machinery.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical system failures.
  • Conduct pre-delivery inspections and performance tests on new or serviced equipment.
  • Ensure all repairs meet manufacturer and Schlatter’s Inc. standards.
Parts & Inventory Coordination
  • Identify and request necessary parts for repairs through internal inventory systems or external vendors.
  • Maintain organized and accurate records of parts usage and work performed.
  • Support inventory accuracy by reporting low stock or recurring parts needs.
Customer & Field Service
  • Occasionally travel to job sites to perform field repairs or provide customer support.
  • Communicate professionally with customers regarding repairs, timelines, and recommendations.
  • Ensure equipment is returned to customers in safe, working condition.
Shop Maintenance & Safety
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Perform routine shop equipment inspections and report issues.
  • Follow all OSHA and company safety procedures during repairs and equipment handling.
Technical Proficiency
  • Operate diagnostic tools and manufacturer-specific service software.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and technical bulletins.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies in agricultural machinery.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in diagnostic tools and mechanical repair techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical certification or associate degree in diesel technology, agricultural mechanics, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in heavy equipment or agricultural machinery repair.
Additional Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and work in outdoor environments.
  • Willingness to work extended hours or weekends during peak farming seasons.
  • Comfortable working in an agricultural and water management industry.
