620-Equestrian / Stables - 3411-620 Sr Stable Hand   JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision to assist Equestrian Supervisor in the operations of the Community Stables; performs related work as required.   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Participates in the care and feeding of horses leads property maintenance and improvements onsite and assists in preparing monthly records and reports. Assists in planning and implementing new projects and ongoing maintenance in accordance with established objectives. Works with Supervisor to prioritize and plan ongoing projects and tasks for maintenance team onsite. Provides necessary supervision in the absence of Equestrian Supervisor. Promotes the use of stables facilities, assists stables facilities users with a variety of related problems and engages with residents to assist when needed with horses or property. Drives a truck, tractor and mule to perform duties daily. Transports horses for emergencies and scheduled trips in truck with attached trailer. Responsible for tracking vehicle and building maintenance and working with maintenance team to keep on schedule. Light handyman work on buildings and with plumbing and irrigation in emergencies. Works with internal teams to keep Equestrian Center and trail system maintained via online ticket system, email, phone and in person. Assists as needed and appropriate in related projects. Assists in landscaping of property to keep free of weeks and in planning, installing, and maintaining plants and trees as needed. Maintains riding arenas and courtyards through proper irrigation and grooming. Assists internal teams in maintaining groomed trails for riders each season. Works daily to lead, train, and support stable hands. Assists Supervisor to ensure that Equestrian Center is functioning at the highest level and in accordance with board and management objectives. Assists in planning and implementing training and safety programs for staff, submits records to Supervisor and Safety Department. Regular attendance required. WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is in a climate-controlled indoor office and exposed to outdoor climate conditions, as well as dust, fumes and dander.   DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school and experience in stable or farm operation or equivalent combination of Education and experience that produces the following: • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of stable operations. • Knowledge of horse feeding, cleaning stables and handling horses. • Experience working in a professional barn environment as stable hand, groom or working student • Experience professionally maintaining land and buildings • Experience maintaining landscaping and systems to support it. • Knowledge of the methods of handling, receipting and maintaining records of money received. • Experience leading and training staff and prioritizing tasks to maintain a facility. • Ability to relate to the needs and concerns of senior citizens. • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, the public and to deal with • public relations problems courteously and tactfully • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. • Skilled in, or willing to be trained to handle, groom and care for horses. • Tractor Certified and experienced with tractor maintenance and implements • Forklift Certified or forklift experience • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word   SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid California driver’s license.   PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires up to 4 hours of standing and/or walking, continual lifting and carrying of up to 50 lbs. with occasional lifting and carrying of up to 100 lbs, continual feeling, frequent kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching and stooping and occasional balancing, crouching fingering and grasping.   MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Reading, detailed work, training, math, reasoning, verbal communication skills and customer contact.   The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job.
