GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The selected candidate will use and evaluate instructional materials and resources, including technology that support the curriculum of Agricultural Science Education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree from an approved teacher preparation program in agriculture education or
- A Technical Professional License with coursework in plant science, animal science, agricultural mechanics and applied technology with a lab component, forestry and wldlife management and horticulture.
- Teaching experience preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS, DUTIES AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrates an accurate knowledge of agriculture and effectively addresses appropriate CTE VDOE curriculum standards.
- Develops in each student awareness and understanding of basic skills, knowledge, and resources applicable to the hair industry.
- Maintains an active leadership student organization, FFA. Instills in each student effective, safe working habits, the importance of continuation of his/her education, and the development of successful work ethics.
- Humanizes instruction by planning a program of study that meets the individual needs of students
- Plans purposeful assignments for student teachers, aides, and substitute teachers
- Assists in the evaluation, selection, and requisition of books, equipment, audio-visuals, and other supplementary materials
- Implements all curriculum programs adopted system wide in a positive and efficient manner
- Participates in curriculum development appropriate to assignment
- Establishes clear objectives for all learning experiences and communicates these objectives to students
- Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with students
- Provides and maintains student progress or assessment through data.
- Speaks clearly using fluent and appropriate language in well-modulated tones
- Ensures proper setup and storage of program resources.
- Promptly and accurately handles routine matters involving reports, records and moneys
- Takes all necessary precautions to protect and to maintain facilities, equipment, and materials
- Returns materials to their assigned place or designated personnel promptly after use
- Emphasizes and enforces safety factors within the classroom, building, and throughout school property
- As an extension of classroom management responsibilities supervises students throughout the school as assigned, or as circumstances require
- Establishes reasonable classroom rules with consistent enforcement occurring in a positive way
- Cooperates with administrative and supervisory staff in the evaluation process
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with co-workers relative to school matters
- Complies with and enforces school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policies.
- Attends and participates in faculty meetings and other professional meetings as required.
- Coordinates relevant work-based learning opportunities for students.
- Cooperates and collaborates with other staff members to plan instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
- Completes reasonable special assignments as determined by the Principal and assists the school administration.
- Provides long and short-range professional development goals and plans through the program of study.
- Participates in and provides business partners for the CTE Advisory Board.
- Sponsors the local chapter of their respective CTSO (Career & Technical Student Organization); Encourages and assists students in competition preparation.
- Fosters workplace readiness skills by strategically integrating Virginia’s 5Cs into daily lesson plans.
- Provides and monitors an updated program inventory list required by law, school division policy, and administrative regulations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This job operates in a professional, school environment. This role routinely uses standard equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate clearly. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, reach, and sit for extended periods of time.
