Vegetable Production Manager

Manor Rock Farm is a small family owned farmstead in Taghkanic, NY. We aim to provide high quality, nutrient dense food to the local community and greater New York Area. The vegetable production manager will play an integral role developing the existing garden operation into an at-scale market garden to support our Warren Street Restaurant, NYC produce shop, and ad-hoc farmers markets. The farm has an area of two acres for outdoor, no-till production and an additional 5,000 sqft of newly built indoor production. The farm also raises heritage breed pork and poultry.


Create and implement annual crop plan, including:

  • Updating and organizing crop lists
  • Organizing time schedules and calendars for propagation, cultivation, field work
  • Field spacing, layout, and crop rotation plan
  • Purchasing seeds according to seasons needs
  • Creating weekly and daily task lists for team
  • Record keeping for production, field work, fertility management

Work to improve farm’s ability to grow high quality food

  • incorporate cover cropping, soil amending, compost additions, biodynamic preparations
  • address limiting factors like drainage and soil composition
  • improve transplanting and direct seeding tools and efficiencies
  • Develop trellising systems and purchase necessary materials, train team in set-up and continued maintenance

Manage harvests in quality and care, including:

  • Updating and organizing harvest lists for customers and stores
  • Organizing basic time overviews and setting team assignments for harvest days
  • Managing post harvest, wash / pack processing workflows for all crops
  • Minding tone and pace for the team
  • Providing training and feedback as necessary
    ● Record and compile harvest data for future crop plans and harvest projections calendars
    ● Develop and manage annual production and harvest projections calendar based on crop
    ● Purchase all materials, tools, equipment for vegetable production and harvest
    ● Hire crew members as needed
    ● Develop on-going partnerships with neighboring farms and community organizers
    ● Work with team on additional daily on-going tasks:
  • Field / bed Preparation; propagation; direct seeding; transplanting; irrigation;
    cultivation; weeding; harvesting, washing, packing, delivering; tool care; pest & disease management; farm maintenance (maintaining and organizing work spaces); continued infrastructure and production space setup; pig and poultry care (fence, food, water, harvest).


  • 3-5 years of farm production experience
  • Preferred experience:
  • growing at market-garden scale
  • no-till, biodynamic growing a plus
  • rotating livestock and managing daily livestock chores
  • improving soil quality with frequent soil tests and ammendments
  • growing farm business to scale
