Seasonal Farm Hand Position

Company Overview

We at Wild Thymes are dedicated to regenerative and chemical-free practices that produce the highest quality food with the maximum positive impact on our land. The farm is situated on 10 acres in the foothills of the beautiful San Juan Mountains. We keep ourselves busy with a half-acre in vegetable cultivation and 7 acres in pasture. With broiler chickens, and over 40 varieties of vegetables, herbs and perennials, we are constantly practicing new ways to engage with classical farming knowledge. Pastured chickens are part of a long-term plan to rejuvenate our topsoil while creating a healthy, diversified soil biome. Our produce and chickens are sold through a CSA, several local retailers, and the wonderful Durango Farmer’s Market.   

Job Summary

We are seeking a candidate for the upcoming 2023 season. We are looking for someone who has a passion for sustainable agriculture and wants to learn the ins and outs of running a small for-profit farm. A love of the outdoors and a strong work ethic is a must, along with an attention to detail, and positive attitude. Farming can be taxing work, and farming under the southwestern sun is no exception. Prior experience on a farm is welcome, but not necessary. We believe the best way to gain experience is to have an experience. Reliable transportation is required as the farm is out in the country. On farm camper parking with electricity is available for a monthly fee.

Duties and Responsibilities

The farm apprentice will assist in all aspects of the farm including, but not limited too:

• Chicken processing and evisceration
• Seeding and Transplanting
• Field Cultivation and Weeding
• Bed Preparation
• Vegetable Harvest
• Vegetable Wash and Pack
• Irrigation and ditch maintenance
• Fence maintenance and weed control.

Schedule

This position will be 3 days a week from late May to the end October. There will be two 6 hour days working in the garden, and one 8 hour day processing chickens. The days of the week are flexible with respect to the farm and employee’s needs.

Compensation

This is an hourly paid position at $14/hr. A half chicken share (valued at $315) and a weekly veggie share (valued at $600) is also provided.
