Currently we are seeking an individual with these core qualities for the Conversion Center in Juana Diaz to manage agronomy operations in our automated greenhouse.

The Protected Culture Agronomy Manager will lead a team of scientists & engineers focused on delivering high quality conversions of soy & cotton. The incumbent will supervise and manage the day to day activities of the green house agronomics team, and drive automation and integration of processes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Manage nurseries in the protect environment conditions to meet production parameters.
  • Specifically, will focus on climate control, irrigation, fertilization and integrated pest management.
  • Supervise a team of Monsanto full- and part-time employees to achieve business goals.
  • Responsibilities include but may not be limited to hiring, training, retaining and assessing performance of employees.
  • Work with internal and external partners to lead automation of operations.
  • Integrate continuous process improvement and quality control programs to improve efficiency, reduce costs and maintain superior conversion quality.
  • Maintain and follow phytosanitary guidelines to achieve minimal pest and disease impact across the Juana Diaz greenhouse operations.
  • Ensure that greenhouse equipment is maintained at the level required to accomplish company goals.
  • Make sure that purchases are made in a timely manner with accurate delivery dates following company procedures. Follow up with vendors if necessary to assure delivery schedule.
  • Ensure that all greenhouse operations are following ESH, Regulatory and ISO policies.
  • Provide timely corrective action for discovered safety and compliance issues.
  • Ensure site inspections and reports for the green house areas are completed and submitted on time.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Agronomy with 5+ years of experience, or a MS degree with 3+ years of experience in a related field. Other degrees will be considered if complimented by greenhouse automation experience.
  • Experience and demonstrated skills with installation and programming of automation and controls systems in greenhouses.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in Spanish and English.
  • Ability to write reports and present data to business partners. Provide metrics summaries and analyses as needed and discuss findings with conversion center lead for necessary improvements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with peers, subordinate and managers in a professional, confidential and respectful manner.
  • Work independently and as part of a team as well as can build and maintain strong relationships and networks to optimize process workflows and assist in achieving team’s business goals.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills are critical.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Experience in greenhouse agronomy, irrigation systems and greenhouse environment control systems.
  • Demonstrated project management skills from inception to project completion.
  • Strong interest and aptitude of IT tools, Excel macros, Databases, statistical analysis and their application in greenhouse research.
  • Proven experience in evaluation and validation of effectiveness of process improvement.
