Live-in Animal Care Intern

Flood Farm

Long Beach , Washington

Are you interested in learning how to run a small family-owned farm? We are seeking a positive and hardworking individual to assist with the care of our animals, including horses, cows, ducks, and dogs. This position is ideal for those looking to expand on their animal caregiving experience but we require candidates have some prior experience with livestock and/or horses.

**Please note this is a long-term work-trade internship. The above work is done in exchange for room, board, and a $200 monthly stipend (extra work available). Each intern is guaranteed one day off per week which is coordinated with the other intern. Room and board includes a private room, utilities, Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, food, and farm fun (basketball court, a dock on Loomis Lake with two kayaks, and access to the beach).

Daily duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Milking the family dairy cow
  • Caring for and exercising 3 horses
  • Handling and socializing German Shepherd puppies (when applicable)
  • Collecting and marketing duck eggs

*Please note room and board is available for one singular person. At this time we cannot accept couples, families, or those wanting to bring a dog.*

Our ideal candidate is flexible with a can-do attitude, follows directions, has an extensive background in horsemanship, and is comfortable with a fluctuating income. Yardwork experience is a plus!

We are very involved in a local theater group (Peninsula Association of Performing Artists), follow the Monks of New Skete’s ‘The Art of Raising a Puppy’, regularly exercise our horses on the beach, and use Parelli Natural Horsemanship techniques on the ground and in the saddle. We encourage our interns to join us in these fun activities as we like to view them as an extension of our family.

To apply, please send a copy of your resume, 3-5 professional references, and a picture and video of yourself working with horses to:
