Greenhouse Maintenance Manager

Hydroponic Herb Farm

Factoryville, Pennsylvania

Job Type Full Time
Salary Details

What we’re looking for:

An experienced Facilities Maintenance Manager to oversee and work with our maintenance team and ensure the effective and efficient updating, improvement and operation of our farm and facilities. The ideal candidate will have expertise in facilities/farm (especially greenhouse) maintenance and possess strong leadership and organizational skills. There is a ton of work to do, and we need someone who is driven to do it.

What you’ll do in this role:

  • Work directly with the ownership team to identify problems and work out solutions. You will be a critical partner in bringing our business to the next level.
  • Lead and work with a small, dedicated team. Help them grow in their roles as you grow in yours.
  • Perform repairs and installations, as needed. You can't be above getting dirty. This isn't an office job.
  • Create work lists, plan and prioritize projects. We have a lot to do, and we need your help.
  • Conduct regular (at least weekly) inspections of the entire farm to identify and resolve maintenance issues. We need our team to see the problems and figure out what is needed to fix them.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols at all times.
  • Coordinate with external contractors for specialized repairs that go beyond our team’s scope of work or would be more efficiently or safely handled by a specialist.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment needed for regular maintenance tasks. We want to have what we need on hand.
  • Understand mission-critical systems and arrange for backup equipment, as needed.
  • Fabricate or repair equipment, as needed.

You’ll be a great fit if you have…

  • proven experience in maintenance and maintenance management. You don’t need to be an expert, but this also can’t be completely new to you.
  • a positive attitude! Working with negative people is no fun and brings down the whole team.
  • strong leadership and supervisory skills. This role will be a leader in our company on day one.
  • strong knowledge and experience in at least one of these areas: greenhouse repairs, plumbing, electrical, HVAC/furnace maintenance, construction/carpentry.
  • a willingness to work across job responsibilities, when needed. While nearly 100% of your time will be dedicated to maintenance tasks, we are a small team and every job is everyone’s job.
  • an excitement to work with a small, growing company.
  • willingness and ability to crawl, stand for extended periods, lift at least 50lbs without assistance, work from ladders and low greenhouse roofs.
  • ability and motivation to keep the workplace clean and organized. We need you to care how things look and how long it takes to find the right part for the job.
  • the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects efficiently. Let’s get things done!
  • the ability to plan multiple competing large and small projects and time them out to limit downtime and inefficiencies.
  • excellent problem solving abilities. You’re confident that you can probably figure it out or know when to call in help.
  • a high degree of integrity and autonomy. You’ll do the right thing even when no one is watching. We don't want to be babysitters.
  • a willingness to give and receive feedback. We’re all growing and that's a good thing.

You should NOT apply if:

  • You like to complain. We want to focus on solutions and just complaining doesn't help anyone move forward.
  • You can't stand working outside or in warm environments. The farm and especially the greenhouses, can get hot in the summer. (Alternatively, they are nice and warm in the winter.)
  • You are looking for a super predictable, boring, corporate position. You will be an integral partner in this role, and we want someone on our team who is excited to pitch in.
  • You don't like hard work. Our current facilities are mostly old and have not been properly maintained before we took over. We are working on changing that and we need your help.

We are a small, growing company and we’d love to have someone who is excited about the chance to build something great in northeastern PA. We have an excellent foundation to build on, but need someone with your skills to help propel us all to the next level!

  • Competitive salary (negotiable, let us know what you need)
  • A very flexible schedule and year-round agricultural work. Once you've gotten established, you can work the schedule that makes the most sense for you and the work. (Want to take an early day and go for a hike in the local state park? No problem!)
  • Medical insurance
  • Company credit card
  • Annual bonuses
  • More benefits to come as we grow. Making the farm a great place to work is very important to the owners.
