AHRC Nassau provides OPWDD-approved Day Habilitation Services in over 30 locations across Nassau County. We provide no cost door-to door transportation, medical oversight by registered nurses and an engaged staff who provide meaningful and person-centered experiences each and every day.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in agribusiness, farm management or another related subject
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ of progressive experience with operating a farm, horticulture, marketing and processing of farm products and livestock
  • Experience coordinating diverse programs and services designed for people with disabilities.
  • Experience with start-up development and organizing diverse and multiple systems
  • Experience with assisted animal therapy, outdoor education.
  • Experience with strategic planning and community partnership development.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Candidates with an acceptable combination of education, training and experience may also be considered.

Primary duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Provide strategic vision and leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating a unique day program with a wide variety of options for people with developmental disabilities.
  • Responsible for the daily planning, organization, supervision and administration of farming activities on Wheatley Farms.
  • Works with an interdisciplinary team to ensure that the farm runs efficiently and profitably.
  • Knowledge of techniques and equipment for planting, growing, and harvesting agricultural food products for consumption, including storage/handling techniques.
  • Care and maintenance of livestock including goats, sheep, chickens, horses and rabbits.
  • Public engagement, tours and working with a large and diverse group of volunteers is essential.
  • Works in conjunction with clinical, therapeutic and fine arts staff to create a healthy, wholesome environment for people with and without disabilities to therapeutically engage with the soil, land and animals.

The Farm manager must adhere to all regulations for safe, high-quality produce farmed in an environmentally sustainable manner and will work to ensure organic certification (NOP) of the program. This position calls for Live-in status. As a live-in staff, the person will have responsibility to care of the animals throughout the week and on weekends ensuring the safety and well-being, and participating in other activities as designated by their supervisor.
