Dairy and Food Program Manager

The Nebraska Department of Agriculture is looking for a Program Manager for the Dairies and Foods Programs. The missions of the Dairies and Foods Programs are to implement and enforce the sanitation and quality standards relative to the dairy and food industry through service, education, and regulation.

Examples of Work

  • Oversee annual and daily activities of the Food and Dairy areas and directly supervise 17 field inspectors and 3 office staff. Review inspection reports, hire and train replacement of additional staff, review of expense vouchers and approve leave.
  • Enforce the requirements of the Nebraska Pure Food Act, including preparation and presentation of the Department's case against volatile operators.
  • Determine compliance with the Manufactured Foods Regulations Program Standards and the Produce Safety Standards.
  • Enforce the Nebraska Milk Act regulating the sanitation standards for production, processing, and distribution of dairy products.
  • Review of local health departments under contract.
  • Schedule routine food sampling, as well as coordinate food samples sent to the laboratory in response to alleged foodborne outbreak.
  • Other duties required by agency.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors degree in agribusiness, Agriculture economics, business administration, animal science, agronomy, biochemistry or related field and experience in an area related to the function of agriculture based agencies such as agriculture education, economics, biology, agronomy, entomology or related area. Experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

PREFERRED: Experience in management and/or training. Regulatory experience.

OTHER: Valid Driver's License required.
