The YMCA of Pueblo is looking for Summer Staff for our resident camp at YMCA Camp Jackson in Rye, Colorado. Camp Jackson Staff live an active outdoor lifestyle. Working at Summer Camp requires energy, enthusiasm, compassion, and a passion for making the world a better place. Our team of dedicated professionals work closely together in the beautiful San Isabel National Forest to create meaningful outdoor experiences for youth and families.
Camp Jackson is looking for an Assistant Wrangler who will enthusiastically represent the YMCA by displaying a positive attitude, maintaining a high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job. The Assistant Wrangler must embody the four-character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. This position is responsible for helping care for a head of 12 horses, and maintaining equipment. The Assistant Wrangler will also assist the Head Wrangler in developing and leading curriculum for weeklong western riding programs for beginner and advanced riders. The Assistant Wrangler will be responsible for caring for and feeding the 12-15 Camp horses for the summer. All camp staff may assist in the maintenance and housekeeping of camp facilities. This is a seasonal position.

- Develop and implement an exciting and safe Horse Masters program incorporating the YMCA’s values
- Immediately report any safety, health or equipment maintenance problems to the Camp Director upon discovery
- Maintain inventory of necessary equipment/supplies and inform the Camp Director of needed supplies in a timely fashion
- Prepare for and actively participate in staff training and staff meetings
- Act as a positive role model for campers and other staff, demonstrating the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in the performance of job duties
- Will work as a cabin counselor
- Play an active role in all camp activities
- Will work stay over weekends as assigned
- Evaluate current season and make suggestions for future season
- To perform all other duties as needed or assigned
- These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned, and other duties may be assigned as required
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Riding experience and teaching experience required
- Previous experience developing riding curriculum
- High School Diploma required; College degree preferred
- CHA, AHA, ARIA or AAHS certification required
- Prior experience with youth or family programming
- Must possess a cooperative spirit and be committed to character development by promoting and demonstrating caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to campers, staff, and program participants
- Manage a safe and positive equestrian experience for campers and staff
- Show proficiency in western riding, horse care, grooming, tacking, and all other appropriate skills
- Six months of satisfactory and verifiable experience with school age children, and/or family programming preferred
- Previous overnight camping experience preferred
- Teaching experience preferred
