Organic farm in West Palm Beach, Florida Seeking an Assistant Farm Manager

Worthy Family Farms is a certified organic farm located in West Palm Beach, Florida. Our farm features a 40-year old star fruit (carambola) grove, blackberries, papayas, apiary, greenhouse/hoop house, tea production, and future plans of furthering our crops and management rotation. Our farm utilizes organic and regenerative farm practices that progressively enrich soils, improve watersheds, increase biodiversity and enhance ecosystem services. 

Position Overview

We are looking for an Assistant Farm Manager who is a self-motivated individual who can adapt quickly, is a great communicator and excited about regenerative agriculture. This person would be the quarterback to our daily farm operation and small farm crew, working closely with the farm owner/manager. Responsibilities would include scheduling, day-to-day management, leading hands-on field operations, farm log management, facilitating order shipments, and overall project management with a hybrid between computer responsibilities and in the field. We are “more than just a farm” with year-round projects ranging from star fruit harvesting, star fruit grove upkeep and maintenance, tea production, hoop house crop management, irrigation projects, organic and governmental paperwork, crop management, and much more. Our future Assistant Farm Manager can adapt quickly and is a great communicator to our Farm Owner/Manager, Farm Crew and Contractors. Farm experience is encouraged, but not as necessary as hard work, adaptive nature and enthusiasm for horticulture.

This is a full-time position located in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Qualifications:

• Enthusiasm for organic and regenerative farming
• Strong management and leadership skills
• Outstanding communication skills in a team environment
• Experience in agriculture/horticulture/farming especially as a farm assistant manager or crew leader is encouraged, but not mandatory
• Willingness to adapt to projects and self-motivated to learn and research as needed
• Basic computer skills especially a good working knowledge of Google Suite/Drive
• Good record keeping skills associated with conducting, tracking, evaluating and follow through on numerous field trials
• Willing to work outside in various types of weather/field conditions
• Forward thinker beyond just task lists and ability to think outside the box
• Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively, written and verbally
• High degree of honesty and integrity

Core Responsibilities:

• Hybrid between computer responsibilities and hands-on field position
• Assist Farm Owner/Manager in all farming operations
• Plans, coordinates and and manages projects and tasks
• Oversee farm crew and contractors daily
• Supervise of day-to-day farm operations including but not limited to: grove maintenance including irrigation and inputs applications, organic food safety protocol, harvesting program, packing room, lot number traceback, shipping and receiving of fruit box orders
• Create and manage crop rotation plan in Green House/Hoop House

Other:

Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus but not mandatory
