Assistant Farm Manager

Round Right Farm

Terra Alta , West Virginia

Round Right Farm is seeking an Assistant Farm Manager.

This is a full-time, year-round position, starting at $12/hr.  On-farm housing in a one bedroom house, including utilities, is included.

The assistant manager will be working directly with the farm owners (we’re also the managers) in any and all of the various tasks associated with running a local produce delivery business.  We’re looking for someone with at least 2 years experience growing organic vegetables for market who knows the work rhythms of vegetable life and understands the need to be flexible in scheduling and eager to put in a long day when the weather is right.  That being said, the Assistant Farm Manager will have many responsibilities that are unrelated to weather. We’ve grown to the point where two managers are not enough to get everything done in the off-season. We’re looking for someone who can quickly learn our systems, make themselves indispensable to the farm and help us continue to thrive.

We raise a wide variety of organic vegetables which are marketed to the Morgantown, WV and Oakland, MD areas through a 300+ member year-round Farm Share Subscription program.  Our online market (based on in-house custom software) gives subscribers a wide variety of choice in what they receive each week from the farm as well as offers a wide variety of products from other producers in our region.  We deliver to various drop spots and subscriber’s homes approx. 40 weeks out of the year.

We proudly employ H2A workers from Chiapas, Mexico from mid-April through November and we are looking for a candidate with some knowledge of the Spanish language who is excited about the opportunity to practice communicating in Spanish, even if they are far from fluent.

The Assistant Farm Manager should have a clean driving record and feel comfortable driving a box truck in varying weather conditions, as well as using only mirrors to back into tight spaces.  Most weeks of the year, you will run the delivery route to Morgantown twice a week, so comfortability with truck driving is important.

Another main responsibility will be pack-shed logistics. Our wide variety of produce (both from the field and from other producers) has differing needs for how it is handled.  Keeping everything processed, inventoried and in the right place is essential to getting the orders right for our customers when we pack their boxes. We’re looking for someone with an eye for both quality and detail, who also has a clear head and can multitask well.  Knowing your way around a Windows computer will also prove helpful.

There will also be a wide variety of work with the plants in the fields and high-tunnels.  We look forward to a candidate that can bring their own passion, experience, techniques, and ideas to help improve the quality of what we offer.  Only slightly less important to us than quality is productivity. We constantly seek to improve our systems so that both the work can feel easier for us and that we can keep our prices in line with what customers can afford.

One month's unpaid vacation is available during the winter months. This can be all at once or spread out some time from Mid-November through March.  We also offer 5 unpaid sick/personal days a year that healthy people can also use for a mid-season vacation.

Housing is provided on the farm in a 520 square-foot one bedroom home.  Utilities including electricity, gas, great spring water, and high-speed internet are also included free of charge. Bring your spouse and children, but please no pets. We are happy to share the farm’s dog and cat with you. We’re sure you’ll love them.

To apply, please email with a letter of interest and two professional references.
