  • As a working supervisor, performs the duties of animal care staff in their absence or as otherwise required.
  • The work involves feeding, housing, cleaning, monitoring for disease or illness, sample collection, working with researchers, and keeping detailed records
  • Responsible for supervising a staff involved in the care, feeding, breeding, and management of mainly swine and secondarily poultry and laboratory animals used in research studies.
  • Oversees the maintenance of facilities and equipment in proper operating conditions.
  • Organizes staff into the most effective units to accomplish designated objectives such as the breeding, feeding, housing, care, treatment of swine and poultry.
  • Maintains accurate records on feed intake, body weight, breeding, health, animal supply and inventory, etc. necessary to effectively manage the unit.
  • Determines resources such as manpower and materials, and recommends to supervisor ways to accomplish work operations, changes in equipment, facilities, etc.
  • Observes all safety and security regulations, requirements, and protocols.
