Job Title: Agriculture Teacher

Reports To: Principal

Contracted Days: 240

 

Job Summary: The Agriculture Teacher is responsible for providing students with comprehensive instruction in agricultural science aligned to Arkansas state standards and frameworks. This includes delivering academic content, managing supervised agricultural experiences (SAEs), advising the local FFA chapter, and maintaining safe, hands-on learning environments such as ag mechanics labs, greenhouses, and barns. The teacher plays a critical role in preparing students for leadership roles and careers in the agriculture industry.

 

 

Essential Duties:

 

Instructional Responsibilities:

  • Teaches district-approved curriculum based on Arkansas state frameworks and standards.
  • Prepares for assigned classes and provides written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials; provides individualized and small-group instruction to differentiate learning.
  • Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate, hands-on learning experiences.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with student needs and physical learning environments.
  • Evaluates student academic growth using teacher-made tests, standardized assessments, checklists, observations, and performance assessments; maintains appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
  • Identifies student needs and makes appropriate referrals; supports students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Section 504 plans.
  • Modifies instruction for students who are gifted, English learners, at-risk, or have special learning needs.
  • Creates a safe, respectful, and engaging classroom environment appropriate to student age, maturity, and interests.
  • Implements school policies for student behavior; establishes fair classroom rules and maintains order.
  • Communicates regularly with students and families for educational purposes and is available during and beyond the instructional day, as needed.
  • Participates in faculty meetings, professional development, and collaborative planning.
  • Collaborates with colleagues in setting instructional goals, selecting instructional materials, and planning school activities.
  • Supports and participates in school events, student activities, and extra-curricular programs.
  • Maintains a secure classroom environment and takes precautions to protect students, materials, and facilities.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote positive school-community connections.

 

Agriculture Program Responsibilities:

  • Provides instruction in agricultural science, plant and animal systems, ag mechanics, natural resources, and related content areas.
  • Oversees and evaluates Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs for all students enrolled in agriculture courses.
  • Serves as advisor to the school’s FFA chapter, coordinating member participation in local, regional, and national activities, leadership development, and competitions.
  • Maintains the organization, safety, and instructional readiness of facilities, including shops, greenhouses, barns, and labs.
  • Coordinates student participation in county fairs, livestock shows, judging contests, and community-based ag events.
  • Develops community partnerships with agricultural businesses, alumni, and industry professionals to enhance instruction and student experiences.
  • Maintains accurate inventories of equipment, tools, and supplies; ensures proper care and use of materials.
  • Manages program budgets and supports grant writing or fundraising efforts to enhance the agriculture program.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

  • Valid Arkansas teaching license for the appropriate grade level(s) and subject area(s), including Agriculture Science.
  • Meets the requirements for Arkansas Qualified Teacher (AQT) designation, if applicable to the teaching assignment.
  • Ability to develop engaging, standards-based lessons that integrate academic and hands-on agricultural content.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to supervise students in the classroom, laboratory, and off-campus agricultural settings.
  • Experience with or willingness to manage FFA programs, student organizations, and Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, families, and community partners.
