Are you interested in learning how to run a small family-owned farm? We are seeking a positive and hardworking individual to assist with the care of our livestock (including horses, dairy cows, beef calves, ducks, and two low maintenance barn cats). This position coordinates with our other intern.
Farm chores (10 chore times per week):
The above work is done in exchange for room, board, and a $200 monthly stipend. Each intern is guaranteed one day off per week (which is coordinated with the other intern). To supplement the stipend, other farm work is available for $10/hour in fluctuating amounts. Tasks include repairing fences, washing cars, and harrowing the arena.
Room and board includes a private room above the barn, utilities, Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, food, and farm fun (basketball court, a dock on Loomis Lake with two kayaks, and access to the beach).
Our ideal candidate is flexible and positive with a can-do attitude, has experience working outdoors or with heavy machinery (tractor and riding mower), is physically capable of doing basic farm work on a regular basis (lifting and moving feed sacks and hay bales, cutting down trees, etc.), loves dogs and horses and is comfortable with a fluctuating income.
We are very involved in a local theater group Peninsula Association of Performing Artists, raise German Shepherd puppies, regularly exercise horses on the beach, and use Parelli natural horsemanship techniques on the ground and in the saddle. We encourage our farm hands to join us in these fun activities as we like to view our interns as an extension of our family.
If you are interested in applying for this position, please fill out the attached questionnaire and email it to email@example.com along with your resume, a cover letter, and 3-5 references.
When you apply, please indicate that you are responding to the posting on Farm and Ranch Jobs.
