This primary responsibility of the Seasonal Gardener consists of maintaining the appearance of the landscapes of the Edgefield property as directed by Management.

The tasks needed to achieve this will include weeding, watering, planting, mulching, pruning, shearing, mowing, fertilizing, clearing debris, and any/all phases of plant care, some degree of plant propagation, selection and installation may also occur. The goal is to ensure the gardens and landscapes are tidy, safe, healthy and interesting, as well as, presentable year round. Some landscape construction and equipment operation will occur. All McMenamins employees are expected to conduct their job in a safe, courteous, and responsible manner and report any safety concerns to their manager. All McMenamins employees will also be expected to keep current on all company events, history and products. Other duties are assigned by Management.

Requirements of the Job:

  • Previous horticultural and landscape education and/or experience is required
  • Plant propagation and greenhouse experience is preferred but not required
  • Basic proficiency in plant identification and care
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to operate hand held power equipment and other heavy equipment
  • Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, special events and holidays

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Effectively maintain all components/systems of attractive planting, pots, landscapes, and gardens
  • Safely lift and carry heavy objects with a hand truck or the help of another person if necessary
  • Ability to work in all kinds of weather conditions
  • Perform a wide range of repetitive physical tasks including, but not limited to: stooping, bending, twisting, kneeling, reaching, grasping, pulling, pushing, and lifting
  • Safely use and some maintenance of hand tools, power tools, and landscape/garden-related equipment
  • Execute light landscape construction projects
  • Safely climb and work with and on ladders
  • Ability to propagate woody plants, herbaceous plants, and vegetables using both vegetative and sexual methods
  • Safely and effectively apply some herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides
  • Use and maintenance of heavy equipment, tractor, and power tools
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines, appointments, and scheduling requirements
  • Ability to effectively communicate with other employees, managers, vendors, and customers/guests
  • Present a positive and professional attitude to co-workers, managers, vendors and customers/guests

Non-Essential Functions of the Job

Assisting customers/guests as necessary
