The School of Animal and Comparative Biomedical Sciences (SACBS) is currently seeking a motivated candidate for the position of Farm Supervisor at the West Campus Agricultural Center located at 2831 N Freeway Dr and the Campus Ag Center Located at 1650 E Limberlost Dr in Tucson.
Under direction of the supervising faculty member and the farm manager, this position helps to plan, manage and oversee the operation of the UA feedlot and feedmill facilities, the teaching farm at the Campus Ag center and the experimental animal facilities at the Agricultural Research Complex. This position supervises student employees. The primary responsibility is for the health and welfare of all livestock at all three locations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintenance of animal facilities, feed mill equipment, farm vehicles and livestock handling equipment.
  • Livestock health and treatment programs and assist with veterinary care.
  • Maintain proper records (health, nutrition and sale) of all livestock.
  • Assists faculty, staff and researchers with teaching and research projects
  • Responsible for meeting feed needs at all units.
  • Assist faculty in teaching classes and lab courses in the SACBS as needed.
  • Provide service to the SACBS as needed.
  • Daily maintenance (feeding and cleaning) and care of farm animals at all UA facilities (Feedlot, Teaching Farm and Agricultural Research Complex)
  • Mix dietary rations
  • Milk lactating cows.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities 
Minimum Qualifications 

  • Ability to work effectively with a diversified group of faculty and graduate students.
  • The selected candidate must become Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) certified upon starting job.
  • Experience in taking biological samples.
  • Effective computer skills (Word, Excel)

Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of college with course work in Agriculture, Animal Sciences or related field AND one year of experience in related area; OR, three years of experience working on a major farm operation; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education. Possession of a current Arizona Type D driver’s license upon employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science and five years of farm animal experience.
  • Ability to formulate feed rations.
  • Experience in feedlot or nutrition software.
  • Ability to manage and direct employees.
  • Ability to teach and assist in teaching courses in area of expertise.
  • Flexibility of schedule.
